Business Day

Overview

The business day is the working period the till operates in. In manual mode you start and end the day yourself; in automatic mode the app opens and closes the day on a schedule set for the location. No orders can be taken until the day is started. There is no cash count at start or end — Reports are your end-of-day source of truth.

Requirements

  • A paired MainPOS (a SubPOS cannot manage the day)
  • Signed in to the POS app
  • Permission to start/end the day, or a manager to approve it (see Manager Approvals)

Steps

Open the user options menu

From the Home screen, tap the user options button at the top.

The Home screen.
Tap the user options button.

Start the day

The menu opens with Start Day and Logout. Tap Start Day — the day opens and the till can start taking orders.

Tap Start Day.

Work the day

While the day is open, the menu shows a timer with how long the day has been running.

The day timer.

End the day

Tap End Day. If there are still active orders, the manual end day won’t work — the app blocks it and asks you to finish the open orders first.

Manual end day is blocked while active orders are open.

Otherwise, an End Day Confirmation dialog appears: “Are you sure you want end day? you can’t make any orders after end day, You can’t undo this process.” Tap End Day to confirm, or Back to cancel.

"You can't make any orders after end day, You can't undo this process."

Notes

Automatic mode: the location can be set to open and close the day by itself at fixed times (for example 06:00 to 23:00). The menu then shows the schedule read-only, and manual start/end is disabled — “Cannot manage day in automatic mode”. The schedule is configured on the location in POS Admin → Locations.

SubPOS devices never manage the day. Opening the user options menu on a SubPOS shows Day Management Restricted — “Day start/end is controlled by Main POS” — instead of the day timer or Start Day / End Day buttons.

On a SubPOS, the user menu shows Day Management Restricted instead.

If a calendar date ends up with two business days (the day was ended and started again), Reports lets you view each business day separately or all together.

Troubleshooting

“Please Start A Day First” when creating an order? The business day isn’t open — start it from the user options menu (or wait for the automatic start time).

“You cannot end the business day because there are active orders”? Complete, cancel, or pay the open orders in Active Orders first, then end the day.
