Taxes

Overview

Taxes apply a percentage rate to orders. You can scope each tax to specific locations, products, bundles, fees, or delivery zones.

Steps

Open Taxes

From the sidebar, go to Orders → Taxes.

Add a tax

Click Add tax to open the form.

Creating a new tax.

Clicking the Add New Tax button takes you to the Inframodern platform to add a new tax, since taxes are created in Inframodern and synced to all applications. Go to Inframodern Taxes to continue creating or editing a tax.

Choose what it applies to

Select the products, fees, or delivery zones the tax applies to.

Select the tax you want to configure.

It opens the tax details page, where you can see the tax data and the locations this tax is applied to.

After scrolling down you will find three tabs — Products Tax, Delivery Zones Tax, and Fees Tax — where you can also configure how the tax is applied.

Tax Application (Apply Tax To)

Depending on the tab, the tax application can differ.

Products Tax tab

Here you can choose whether to apply this tax to all products at the selected locations, or to selected products at the selected locations. “Selected locations” refers to the locations selected above.

When you turn on this setting, you can add tax for a specific product or bundle in the selected locations. Select the product or bundle by clicking Add New Product or Add New Bundle.

Delivery Zones Tax tab

Here you can choose whether to apply this tax to all delivery zones at the selected locations, or to selected delivery zones at the selected locations. “Selected locations” refers to the locations selected above.

When you turn on this setting, you can add tax for a specific delivery zone in the selected locations. Select the delivery zone by clicking Add New Zone.

Fees Tax tab

Here you can choose whether to apply this tax to all fees at the selected locations, or to selected fees at the selected locations. “Selected locations” refers to the locations selected above.

When you turn on this setting, you can add tax for a specific fee in the selected locations. Select the fee by clicking Add New Fee.

Tax Calculation

Tax calculation is the same for the three tabs.

  1. Additive tax means the tax is not included in the price of the product or item, so it is added to the order subtotal and shown as a separate line on the customer’s receipt.

  2. Inclusive tax means the tax is already included in the price of the product or item; it shows on the customer’s receipt with an “incl” label.

Tax Exemption

Tax exemption works the same way across the three tabs, but the exemption rule differs for each.

Product Tax Exemption

  1. Select the location, or apply to all locations by selecting the “all locations” option.
  2. Select the rule: equal to and above, or below, an amount.
  3. Type the amount for the rule.
  4. Select the exempted products.
  5. Select the exempted bundles.

Delivery Zone Tax Exemption

  1. Select the location, or apply to all locations by selecting the “all locations” option.
  2. Select the rule: equal to and above, or below, an amount.
  3. Type the amount for the rule.
  4. Select the exempted area.

Areas are inside a delivery zone, and a delivery zone can contain multiple areas. Refer to Delivery Zones for details.

Fees Tax Exemption

  1. Select the location, or apply to all locations by selecting the “all locations” option.
  2. Select the rule: equal to and above, or below, an amount.
  3. Type the amount for the rule.
  4. Select the exempted fees.

Notes

A tax is calculated on the items and charges within its scope. Review the scope so orders are taxed correctly.

Troubleshooting

If a tax is missing or wrong on the POS, confirm its rate and scope, then allow the device to sync.
